Jon ‘Lofty’ Manley began DJing in the early 90′s, having been drawn in to the world of House Music courtesy of the Essential Selection/Mix and Sasha’s famous G-Spot and Universe mix tapes.
The move to Exeter to start University life in 1996 was the catalyst to move out of the bedroom and integrate within the city’s club scene. Reform Records and Iain ‘Lazy’ Smith’s club nights around the city and in Bristol, such as Fruity Antics, established Jon’s direction down the Soulful & Deep House route. It was during this time in Exeter that the first ‘proper’ gigs were undertaken, such as the University’s World Aids Day event ‘The Safer Sex Ball’ or the RAG boat parties.
Along side this Jon and friends set up, promoted and DJ’d at their own events; Pulse and RAW, picking up on the burgeoning UK Garage sound in 1997 and bringing it from London to the South West, all in keeping with the Soulful House Music he loves.
Following this Jon moved out of Exeter and became involved with the club scene in the wider South West, in particular Salisbury where he held weekly residencies with his DJing partner and friend, Luke Crisell, at PoNaNa and Spirit. Guest slots in Cheltenham and Southampton on the back of these nights were to follow.
In recent years Jon has integrated digital DJing with the traditional vinyl set up. This move, along with getting deeper in to the online Dance Music scene, has resulted in online radio residencies and new guest DJ slots, including the highly successful SP8 Summer Fest and the Freshfields Festival on the South Coast of England. Jon is now hosting his weekly show ‘hOUSEwORX’, Friday’s 8-10PM (UK); showcasing the freshest Soulful & Deep House alongside some classic tracks from back in the day.
